Permit to

Take Water

(PTTW)

What is a PTTW?

As per Section 34 of the Ontario Water Resources Act, a resident of Ontario who takes (or diverts) more than 50,000 litres of water a day from either a pond, lake, river, stream or groundwater resource must obtain a Permit to Take Water (PTTW) from the Ministry of Environment (MOE).

A PTTW is classified under three categories:

Category 1 - little risk of negative impact on the environment

Category 2 - higher risk of negative impact on the environment

Category 3 - greatest potential to negatively impact the environment

ORE will assist you in the PTTW application or renewal process by helping determine which Category best suits your situation, helping calculate what the expected daily usage of water will be, completing the application as well as any other services that may be required during the process.
